Ladies, yes you need to do it. Its part of the fitness over 50 lifestyle.
It will tone your muscles and make you look much sexier. And who doesn’t want to look better, leaner, and more attractive?
This is a post that I had originally posted back in January. It was timely then and it is timely now. So I thought it was worth posting it again. Plus Rhonda and I are heading to the beach today, so time was limited with regards to writing a new post.
Strength training for women, doesn’t mean lifting heavy weights. No you will not get big muscles and look like the Incredible Hulk.
Please notice that I wrote “strength training” not “bodybuilding”. There is a difference.
Both, men and women lose muscle mass and body strength as aging occurs. In fact, we begin to lose mass and strength in our 30′s. It just happens. However, to make matters worse, our modern day lifestyles increase the rate at which we lose the strength and mass. The bottom line is we just do not use our muscles enough. Things begin to sag and get soft. Bummer.
We sit behind a desk all day long, then go home and have pizza while watching American Idol. Not exactly a very physical day. Yet at the end of the day, we feel tired and exhausted. No energy left in the tank.
The reason for feeling like this is simply because we have weak muscles. Both skeletal and organ muscles have difficulty carrying you through the day. This is why strength training becomes so vital. It strengthens the body so you can enjoy your day to the fullest. Watch the video, you will learn why strength training is important.
In later posts, I will touch on specific strength training exercises that are great for women. In the meantime, click on the link, you can learn more about Strength Training For Women Over 50The information is great..

I agree 100% because I am living proof what weight training can and has accomplished. I began my transformation on July 22, 2005, making a 5 year plan and fitness goal. To date, I have lost over 30 pounds and 45 INCHES lifting weights. So, when anyone says it cannot be done, tell them Teri LaFaye is living proof. I will be 50 on July 24th and would not trade places with anyone half my age because I am in the best shape of my life. It is a lifestyle change that is worth the effort. Great article!
