Now there is an oxymoron!
A few years ago when I first heard that salads could be unhealthy for you I just didn’t believe it. I eat salads all the time.How could a salad with all the good stuff be bad for you? It just can’t be!
So how can a salad not be healthy? Well, actually it is not the salad itself. That part is usually good. It is what goes on top of the salad that determines whether or not the salad is healthy. Put the wrong toppings on, the wrong salad dressing and you might be better off having a big fat cheeseburger with fries.
Odds are if you order a salad in a restaurant, you would be better off with the burger. In some restaurants, the salad is actually the most fattening item on the menu. Many of these salads pack over 1,200 calories and are loaded with HFCS and other fattening ingredients. I am now very careful about what salads I eat in restaurants. I pay particular attention to the salad dressing that comes with the salad. Often, I will ask to have the dressing changed to a healthier choice. Most restaurants are pretty good about offering a healthier alternative.
At home, I often have a dressing made out of olive oil, vinegar and and assortment of different herbs or spices. Much healthier.

Now that you have lots of new great ideas to follow, you may want to go to the fridge and throw out many of those salad dressings that you bought at the grocery store. Odds are they contain exactly what you do not want to consume. There are many great books that you can pick up that are fairly inexpensive. They provide healthy salad recipes that will help you become healthier, leaner, fitness and sexier. Isn’t that what we all want?
